The French Riviera is as ubiquitous a term as 'a nice cup of tea', we are so familiar with it that it may have lost a little of its meaning. Similarly if you spoke with an expert tea taster he may also be able to enlighten you as to what 'a nice cup of tea' actually means. The French Riviera has been associated with holidays for as long as holidays have existed. In fact the idea of summer holidays were probably invented in France, when in the early 1900's discounted, off season rates were organised for summer train trips to the South of France for French workers.
The French Riviera Holidays is as synonymous with summer holidays as the Champagne region is synonymous with a particularly fine sparkling white wine. Certain regions of France are famed for their speciality and the French Riviera is no different. Generically famous for summer holidays the region itself can be broken down into ideal holiday destinations specialising in a particular thing.Cannes for example is famous for its events, its high glamour and its grandiosity. It is the prefect location for your French Riviera holiday if you want to follow in the footsteps of stars, like to dress well and be seen or have a passion for cocktails, shopping and the finer things in life. It is not an ideal location if you are on a tight budget or are looking for quiet beaches away from the crowd.Nice is a more realistic holiday proposition if you are a family visiting the French Riviera. The city is a busy working city where you will find ordinary people going about their business.
Juan les Pins is a particular favourite with French Riviera Holiday makers and it is extremely busy at the height of the summer season, especially August. Consequently it is an unusual mix of high end shops and seaside family fun. You will find designer stores beside ice cream vendors and much of the language you will hear uttered is exclusively French. It is a busy hive of summer activity with restaurants, nightclubs, casino and endless white beaches. Come Winter it is a sleepy seaside town in repose before another hectic year.
